What does it look like to be a staff at RMMC? We employ 20-25 young adults each summer as an important aspect of making camp a place of retreat and community. This includes multiple established leadership positions as well as areas for individuals to share their talents with others through things such as; worship leader, Banquet planning, hike leading, arts and crafts, etc. With each week of camp, you will encounter new people and challenges each week alongside your fellow staff. By the end of the summer, we hope you feel a sense of accomplishment and community here at RMMC and take your experiences with you.
Staff Positions
We have a variety of positions that allow for opportunities for individuals to share their gifts and talents. This includes leadership positions, support roles, and many other needs for specific skills. The full summer begins with staff orientation and ends with Family Camp II. After resident youth camps, staff will transition into serving summer guest groups and family camps. Applicants able to commit for the full summer will receive the best consideration of position preferences (all 10 weeks). Partial summer commitments are equally welcomed to ensure all positions are filled.

Transportation
Receive up to $500 for travel expenses
- We are way out west! If travel expense is of concern we’ll take care of it. Whether it’s the price of a plane ticket or the cost of gas we’ll reimburse you for those expenses.

You are also being generous in your willingness to share your gifts and talents with each other along with all the campers and guests who enjoy this place.
Remuneration
- First-time employees – $325 per week
- Leadership positions – $400 per week
- Online learning/training – $150 (prior to arrival)
- Returning staff bonus – $50 per week (each summer)
- Full summer season bonus – $500 (8 weeks)
Note: $400 – value of meals and housing provided each week
Work Schedule
Working together, staff facilitate the care of campers, self, and fellow staff to fulfill and sustain the Rocky Mountain ministry.
- All positions will be participating in camp-related activities for the summer. Specific times will vary from week to week as well as time off and breaks. The goal is to provide a safe and clean place for campers, guests and staff to enjoy during their stay while caring for and allowing staff to enjoy their time at RMMC.
- Each day will consist of “fun work” and “work work” We are a summer camp and YES we have a lot of fun! And YES we also clean bathrooms! As with all jobs, there is real work that needs to be done but the reasons and ways we do them can greatly impact how work feels to us and to those working with us.
Time Off
RMMC incoorporates and accommodates time off for personal care and health both during and in between serving campers and guest groups.
- Vacation time beyond the normal camp week (i.e. weddings, family trips, etc.) should be coordinated BEFORE arriving at Staff Orientation.
- Additional sick or personal time during the day (to allow for physical or emotional care) should be coordinated with supervisor and camp nurse.
- Additional days or time off requested during the summer should be requested in writing two weeks BEFORE the requested time and will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

We offer a “how can I help” perspective to the work we do. Regardless of the position, everyone is asked to join in and help where needed. For example, after a week of camp, all staff; program, wilderness, food service, counselor, etc. will all assist in turning over the camp by cleaning facilities to prepare for the next session.

Summer Internships:
Camp is able to work with college degree programs for students to gain practical experience relating to their field of study. Programs are designed to compliment the student’s professional undergraduate student preparation.

Application Process
- APPLY – Submit a completed application form online (new summer staff or returning summer staff).
- REFERENCES -Provide names of three references on your application who will be sent an online reference form on your behalf.
- INTERVIEW – We’ll find a time to schedule to have a chat (in person or online via Zoom) about joining the summer staff team here at RMMC.
With an application, references and interview complete, hiring decisions will be made on a case by case basis with the goal of having all positions filled by March 15th. That said, applications are welcomed until all spots have been filled so please contact us!
Transportation (receive up to $500 for travel expenses)
To help with any transportation expense to RMMC, we are offering transportation assistance. So if it’s gas for your car, or a plane, you’ll be reimbursed up to a maximum of $500 per person (Note: minimum commitment of 4 weeks or more required). Nobody wants transportaion to be a barrier to a summer staff experience as part of the Rocky Mountain ministry.
If flying, it’s hard to beat the Colorado Springs airport (COS) as the closest airport to camp. Of course, ticket prices are what they are and you might find a better rate into Denver International Airport (DIA). Please take into account the additional time and expense (around $55 each way) for getting from DIA to Colorado springs (Groome Transportation offers private shuttle service between locations). Camp will offer transportation to/from Colorado Springs for summer staff.

- “Fun work” and “work work” should be part of each day.

Volunteer Positions
Persons interested in coming for shorter amounts of time (typically two weeks or less) are encouraged to apply as volunteers. Free housing and food is offered for those unable to make longer term commitments as a summer staff member.

OUT OF STATE APPLICANT INSTRUCTIONS (you are not physically present in Colorado OR not a resident):
A. Go to https://abi.cabiond.com/login to create an account OR sign in if you already have an account.
B. Enter requested information.
C. Select “Out of State” option and continue to follow the steps which will ask for the following information:

Instructions on the site share: “You are selecting the non-resident fingerprint processing which is available for those applicants residing outside of Colorado or if you are unable to physically visit one of Colorado Fingerprinting locations. The following are the next steps in the process.”
1. FD-258 Fingerprint Card – You must have your fingerprints taken on FD-258 fingerprint cards. You can do this at local law enforcement or any private agency qualified to take fingerprints. We recommend obtaining two (2) fingerprint cards. The cards need to be signed by both you and the official taking fingerprints and all personally identifiable information must be completed.
(RMMC Note – To find a location near your location, the agent I spoke with suggested doing an internet search of “fingerprinting services near you” to identify a place. Be aware that you will need to personally pay the fee for the fingerprint cards at the location you select. Please keep the receipt for reimbursement.)
2. Confirmation – At the end of the enrollment process please print your confirmation receipt with your order number.
3. Money Order or Business Check – (If used for payment) – If you used a money order or business check for payment please include the money order (with the appropriate payment amount) payable to American Bioidentity.

Standard Precautions Training
Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System – PDIS (click for link)
This training covers the use of standard precautions in early care and learning settings. It also addresses the prevention and control of infectious diseases, and the role of immunizations for children and care providers. Upon completion of all online modules, completion certificate will be printed and signed to indicate that the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp exposure control plan was reviewed.
STEP 1: To take the online training, please complete the following steps.
- Login to to the PDIS site (link above) using your existing account information (returning summer staff) or create a new account (new summer staff)
- Once logged in, you will be on a “Home Dashboard” page.
- Click on “Learning” (top line navigation) and “Learning Search”.
- In the search bar, enter “Standard Precautions”.
- Select “Standard Precautions, including Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases and Immunizations”
- Select “Open Curriculum”
- Complete listed steps.
STEP 2: Save certificate of completion (not test results) as a pdf file and upload to your Online Summer Staff Portal (click to upload).
Child Abuse Reporting

Under the “Child Protection Act of 1987” (C.R.S. 19-3-301) in the Colorado Children’s Code, child care center workers are required to report suspected child abuse or neglect. The law at 19-3-304 states that if a child care worker has “reasonable cause to know or suspect that a child has been subjected to abuse or neglect or who has observed the child being subjected to circumstances or conditions that would reasonably result in abuse or neglect shall immediately upon receiving such information report or cause a report to be made of such fact to the county department, the local law enforcement agency, or through the child abuse reporting hotline system as set forth in Section 26-5-111, C.R.S.

Expert Online Training Certificate

Facilitating a safe, fun and meaningful summer for everyone fulfills the goal of the Rocky Mountain ministry AND sustains the child care license with the State of Colorado. These online classes help us all do just that in caring for and protecting the campers and yourself. They are what they are but hopefully a bit more engaging with real life examples vs. a textbook. Additionally, you get to choose when, where and how many classes you want to complete at a time (i.e spread out or binge). These classes represent the additional week of pay along with the other trainings and paperwork that allow us as a staff to maximize our time together for orientation week.
STEP 1: To take the online training, please complete the following steps.
- Login to to the Expert Online Training site (link above) using the welcome email you received from them and RMMC (custom message).
- Follow instructions to assigned classes.
STEP 2: Save certificate of completion as a pdf file and upload to your Online Summer Staff Portal (click to upload).

IRS I-9 Form
Form I-9 verifies your citizenship status for employment.
STEP 1: Download & complete required informaton:
- Section 1: provide name, address, etc.
- Section 2: provide document information you are using to verify citizenship
- Document from LIST A ONLY (i.e. passport)
- OR
- Document from LIST B (i.e. drivers license, school ID with photo, etc.) AND
- Document from LIST C (i.e. social security card, birth certificate, etc.)
- Section 3: camp information already included in I-9 form provided above

IRS W-4 Form
Form W-4 directs your employer to withhold the correct federal income tax from your pay. If too little is withheld, you will generally owe tax when you file your tax return and may owe a penalty. If too much is withheld, you will generally be due a refund. Complete a new Form W-4 when changes to your personal or financial situation would change the entries on the form.

- Do NOT bring live (or dead) pets, alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, marijuana, fireworks, or dirt bikes.
- K-cups for our Keurig machine (in addition to our regular coffee maker) can be brought or purchased.

Correspondence
PHONE – Camp’s landline phone is limited to use after supper and before breakfast to help keep limited phone lines open during office hours (10-15 min. limit). The great news is that your long distance calls (at least within the U.S.) are free because of a great phone plan! While cell phones don’t get reception here at main camp, a short hike to Monkey Rock (5 min.) will give you reception and a great view.
EMAIL/INTERNET – A staff computer is available with limited access for staff without laptops. Those with laptops are free to use the wi-fi access during your time off.
Laundry
The laundry room is available for use and detergent is happily provided at no charge (another perk!) to encourage clean and good smelling staff. Housekeeping will coordinate when the laundry room is available.
Weather
Mountain climates are cooler as the temperature decreases 3 degrees for every 1000′ of elevation gain (Camp is at 9,620′ elevation). Typically, the high temperature does not exceed 85-90 degrees during the summer with the average temperature around 65-75 degrees. Keep in mind however, that morning temperatures may dip into the high 30’s and snow has fallen in June!
How much to bring?
Please remember that staff living quarters are nice, but not necessarily lavish in style and size. Avoid the need to use a moving truck to bring your personal belongings. Live simply so that you and your roommates may simply live with each other and each other’s stuff!
